Chapter I - The Book

Flight Feathers

Flight Feathers is Shubneet Kaur’s debut collection of poetry. Rooted in nature and human emotion, its poems linger on the feelings that accompany us through change: hope, longing, tenderness and the courage to begin again. Written by a dietitian who has always held on to her love of words, the book is an invitation to pause, reflect and see beauty in the moments we might otherwise pass by.

How it began

FROM QUIET THOUGHTS TO A BOOK IN HAND

Some feelings ask to be written down. Flight Feathers grew from listening to them.

Shubneet began writing and painting as a child. Poetry became the form she returned to whenever a thought, a memory or a moment in nature stayed with her. Over time, those individual pieces began to speak to one another. Together, they became Flight Feathers.

Bringing the book into the world was a deeply personal milestone. Sharing it at gatherings and speaking with readers gave the poems a life beyond the page. The photographs below capture moments from that journey: a writer holding her book, listening to others, and discovering what her words mean to the people who read them.

How it began

THE MOMENTS THAT INSPIRE THE POEMS

A poem may begin with a feeling, but it often takes shape through something seen or experienced: the colour of a sunset, the stillness of a hillside, a journey away from home or a conversation that lingers afterward. These moments invite Shubneet to look more closely and find words for what she feels.

This gallery offers a glimpse into the world around Flight Feathers. It is a collection of places, encounters and everyday moments that nurture her curiosity. As you look through the images, you may recognise the same sense of wonder, reflection and possibility that runs through the book.

How it began

The poet behind the pages

Shubneet Kaur is a poet, writer, artist and practising dietitian. She began expressing herself through words and painting in childhood, and her creative work has appeared in Indian newspapers, including The Tribune and Hindustan Times. While her professional work focuses on nutrition and well-being, poetry has remained her first love. She is drawn to the way a few carefully chosen words can hold a feeling that might otherwise be difficult to express. Nature often gives her a starting point: a changing season, a flower, a landscape or a moment of quiet. From there, her poems move toward the emotions and experiences people share.

Flight Feathers brings these interests together in her first published collection. For Shubneet, the book is an opportunity to connect with readers who bring their own memories and meanings to each poem. Beyond writing, she values work rooted in care for others. That attention to people and their everyday lives informs both her approach as a dietitian and the sensitivity she brings to the page. Her creative journey continues with a simple intention: to notice more, feel deeply and keep finding words worth sharing.
